Artist Statement Boi & CV

Artist Statement:

Visually driven by color, design and the uniqueness of one's character; I seek to paint people, places and things which stir a sense of joy within me. As I paint, I get lost in the euphoric energy of what it is to create. All time stands still and all else around me disappears as I become one with my brush, making marks in paint, creating each stroke as if I had painted it before.

Artist Bio:

Born to Paint

Sunset skylines, VW’s and scooters, quaint little houses, and unique figures in interesting spaces; are some of the favorite things Artist Julie Rumsey lives to paint.

Most subjects often have a bright color note or certain design essences that capture her attention. Her unique choice in subject matter have derived from everyday objects of the past converging with the present.

Growing up in an artistic home Julie showed great promise at a young age. She can remember when she was around age three; with a hand full of crayons and younger brother in tow running down the hall illustrating stories on the walls of her parents’ home. Her mother who loved color and design and her father, a graphic designer and owner of his electrical sign contractor business; had a significant influence to help mold her ideas and aspirations in becoming the artist she is today.

In her twenties, Julie decided to follow in her father’s footsteps by creating her own “pop the trunk” window painting businesses to help earn a little money for college. She found great satisfaction in knocking doors, promoting her art and getting to know the people of the Treasure Valley in Boise Idaho. Soon her pop the trunk became a full time business as she designed and illustrated storefront seasonal, promotional and holiday designs, characters and scenes to promote commercial storefront businesses and boutiques. Innovative, creative and tenacious are but a few words that describe Julie. She has also developed and designed her own reusable holiday decals for home, office and storefront windows, walls and so much more! You can find this body of work at julieartdecals.com

Between balancing work and family, Julie attended Boise State University where she studied Illustration, Figure Drawing & Painting, Ceramic and Sculpture. “Studying under the masterful talent of Dan Scott, Richard Young and Bill Carman was thrilling and exhilarating, I could see my talent come alive and my desire to grow as an artist increase.”

Thriving in her talent, she took up plein air painting in the early spring and summer months. When vacationing she would paint while her husband took their two kids dirt biking in the mountains of southwest Idaho. “Those days were magical; we all were in our element. In the evening when the day was done, we’d sit around the campfire roasting s’mores, share our daily events and have a mini art show displayed on the front windshield of our truck.”

Julie has studied plein air under nationally recognized artists Randy Sexton and Aaron Cordell Johnson, including worldwide recognized plein art artists Anastasia Dukhanina and Antonin Passemard. In addition, she has studied figure painting under nationally recognized artists Casey Baugh and received a mentorship under Dan Scott. “I find learning from other artists a great resource in shortening my learning curve and increasing my knowledge in the creative process. It’s exciting getting to know like minded thinkers which has been a real treasure to me."

One of the highlights of Julie's career has been to be featured on with Brian Holmes.
